A series of workshops offered to the community. Register for all nine or choose individual workshops you plan to attend. Social workers and counselors can earn up to 30 CEU's. All workshops are held at:

Understanding Dissociation and Dissociative Identity Disorder (D.I.D.): Treatment Strategies

This three hour workshop will identify the relationship between early trauma and dissociation. Linda will discuss how D.I.D. develops, and explain techniques and strategies that can be utilized to treat D.I.D. with actual case examples.
Presenter: Linda Mercuri Fischbach, Ed.D., PCC-S. Linda is Director of Clinical Services at Family Services. She has a doctorate in Counselor Education from UC, 30 years of clinical experience and has been an adjunct professor for University of Dayton’s counseling department since 1994.

Supervision Workshop

This workshop utilizes discussion, PowerPoint presentation and small group activities as a recipe for leadership in social services. Participants will learn the basic theories and principles of supervision; recognize laws and rules; and identify the importance of the setting, relationship and peer feedback.
Presenter: Linda Gatten Butler, MSW, ACSW, LISW-S, Linda is President of Butler Consulting, and an experienced trainer, social worker, consultant and manager. She is a contributing author for “In the Trenches: You & Your Non-Profit”.

Non-Verbal Communication

Since nonverbal communication has traditionally been seen as “soft evidence” vs. “hard evidence,” it is crucial to learn how to evaluate unspoken messages appropriately. This workshop puts the power in YOUR hands since it is essential that social workers, counselors, supervisors and administrators use the best information available to provide maximum benefit to clients. Participants will leave with tips, skills and ideas ready for immediate implementation.
Presenter: Jenny “Alex” Alexander, Professor, Wright State University. MS-Counseling; Wright State University Lecturer; Award-winning Educator, Trainer and Consultant. Alex is also a recognized fitness/wellness professional.

Avoiding Burnout

Understanding Self-Mutilating Behavior

This workshop will help professional staff to understand that mutilating, cutting, burning and other forms of selfinjurious behaviors by youth are not always suicide related behavior, but are often the result of past trauma or abuse. David will help participants explore the causes and scope of these behaviors, and learn ways to intervene.
Presenter: David A. Zidar, LISW-S, Independent Trainer and Consultant. Dave has nearly 30 years experience in child welfare and has been providing training and consulting for more than18 years.

Behavior Management: Working with Children with Behavioral Problems

This workshop will explore the root of behaviors for children in care and develop an understanding of the influence of neglect, abuse, and parental separation on children’s behaviors. Participants will also learn best practices for controlling their own behavior and lessening the misbehavior of the child. David will discuss various parenting methods and the three checks of behavior management.

Examining Ethical Issues in Social Work: Are You Ethically Fit?

Every day social workers face decision making that will alter the course of many lives. This workshop will challenge us to answer the question – “are you ethically fit?” Jayne will define what “ethically fit” means, examine ethical challenges, and discuss ethical principles related generally to social work. We will explore critical thinking and determine if we are “critical thinkers”?
Presenter: Jayne E. Schooler, MBS. Jayne has extensive experience teaching, training and mentoring for social workers, adoptive parents and foster parents and prospective trainers in the Ohio Child Welfare Training Program. She has authored seven books and over 100 articles in the field of child welfare, and designed/developed foster/adoption curriculum.

Overcoming Trauma: The Recovery Process from Childhood Sexual Abuse

Yes, those kids CAN turn out healthy and happy after sexual abuse!! This course offers the survivor’s perspective in the long-term process of healing from childhood sexual abuse. Bonnie will walk participants through the stages of recovery incorporating her own healing strategies and current research covering the many stages of the grief/resolution process. Presenter: Bonnie Bazill-Davis, BA is an award-winning speaker delivering education that saves lives. She speaks with passion from the heart of experience as a survivor of childhood sexual abuse and life as a teen runaway. Her former clinical background as a certified chemical dependency counselor gives her a unique perspective with this topic.

Reactive Attachment Disorder

This workshop will explore the etiology of Attachment Disorder, the risk factors and variances from healthy attachment. Cheryl will discuss common behaviors of children with RAD, child maltreatment and brain development. Various treatment methods for working with child/family will be explored.
Presenter: Cheryl Lobbestael-Griffin, LISW, ACSW, BCIA-EEG . Cheryl is a therapist with Catholic Social Services of the Miami Valley, where she provides mental health counseling, assessment, case management, prevention and treatment services; specializing in treating children with RAD.

Brain Fitness: 10 Ways to Prevent Memory Loss

This workshop offers discussion, PowerPoint presentation and small group activities, with tips and data specific to reducing memory loss and increasing brain fitness. Participants will identify what brain fitness means and learn ways to reduce memory loss. Linda will share strategies, resources and lifestyle factors that contribute to brain fitness.
