New Family Center on Brown Street     New! Construction Update Slideshow

Catholic Social Services of the Miami Valley invites you to support the building of the new CSSMV Family Center. The 14,404 sq. ft. center will be built adjacent to the current Erma’s House Family Visitation Center at 1024 Brown Street.

Erma’s House, operated by Catholic Social Services, will remain operational throughout the construction process. Upon completion, the Erma’s House program will be incorporated into the new facility, but will maintain a unique identity and separate entrance. Following the move, the current Erma’s House building will be demolished to make way for additional parking.

In addition to the replacement of Erma’s House, the new CSSMV Family Center will enable the agency to bring together family service programs currently located in three rented office sites, including: Beginnings (pregnancy counseling, adoption and foster care), TeenParentLink, TeenLifeLink, FatherLink, Mental Health Counseling, SAFE Counseling and Parenting Education.

Renovation of Child Day Care Center to Bring Educational Excellence to Dayton’s Inner City

Twenty-five percent of American children live in households with income at or below the poverty level. In Dayton’s inner-city area, over 80% of children live in poverty. For the past thirty years, despite the socio-economic challenges, thousands of children in west Dayton have successfully learned and grown in a daycare environment offered by the Miami Valley Family Care Center, a day care operated by Catholic Social Services. This early child education center has successfully prepared generations of children for success in school.

The Miami Valley Family Care Center provides an academically rich preparatory experience for children ages 3 – 6. Located on the grounds of the Veteran’s Administration on Gettysburg Avenue, the current daycare facility is over 100 years old, the last major renovation of the building was completed in 1975 when the Daycare center was first created. The plumbing, electrical wiring and heating systems are over 60 years old. Childcare standards are increasing and the CSSMV day care must meet new standards to continue its important educational mission. With your support , Catholic Social Services will invest in the renovation of the Miami Valley Family Care Center – a place where young children and their parents are encouraged to reach for success!

“As we begin our 85th Anniversary Year, we are excited to share our vision for the future,” explained CSSMV Executive Director Ronald Eckerle. “Our changes and growth will make it possible for us to improve and expand our service delivery. With the new family center and a renovated daycare center, we will have new opportunities to serve our community as we meet the needs of families and children.”
