Common Questions About Counseling Services

How long are treatment sessions and what is the average length of treatment?

Generally, sessions are weekly or bi-monthly and last about 50 minutes. Many people resolve their concerns within a few sessions. Most treatment is short-term with ten or fewer sessions.

What are the qualifications of the therapists at Catholic Social Services? Is your agency licensed and accredited?

The therapists have advanced degrees in behavioral or social sciences and are certified, licensed, or license eligible in psychology, counseling, or social work. All are experienced therapists and have additional training beyond their master’s degrees.

The counseling program has also received the State of Ohio Department of Mental Health Facilities Certification and is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Services for Families and Children.

What kind of treatment will I receive?

That depends upon an assessment conducted by you and your therapist. Our staff is able to provide counseling for families, individuals, couples and groups.

What can I expect in the treatment session?

In a warm and accepting atmosphere, the therapist will assist you in identifying concerns, setting goals, and progressing through the change process. The change process may involve working with feelings, thoughts or behavior in an effort to achieve your goals and enhance personal growth. Some therapists use home assignments in addition to office sessions.

How do I know if I can benefit from therapy?

Almost all people can benefit from counseling at some point in their lives. Sometimes it is difficult to talk with family or friends. A qualified professional therapist will assist you when any personal, interpersonal, or emotional difficulty arises.

At what times are appointments available?

Appointments are scheduled from 8:30 – 5:00, Monday through Friday. Evening appointments are also available.

Are there fees for counseling services?

The cost of treatment is determined by your yearly income and family size. This is called a sliding scale. Other financial obligations will also be considered. Most insurances are accepted.
