Catholic Schools Raise Funds for CSS Center for Families

(June 16, 2006) – St. Albert the Great in Kettering and Holy Angels in Dayton ended the school year with fund raising activities to support Catholic Social Services Center for Families.

At St. Albert the Great School’s field day June 5, students raised more than $2,300 to furnish the Erma’s House arts and crafts room of the new CSS Center for Families building on Brown Street. The students raised the funds in the field day’s walk-athon event, which followed upon the school’s “Walk the Walk” initiative, encouraging students to “walk in the way of the Lord” by using their gifts and talents for good, serving others, working for justice and developing their spiritual life, said field day coordinator Julie Taylor.

At Holy Angels, CSSMV was selected by the Student Council as the recipient of the Penny Drive and Lenten Project. The funds will purchase items for the Erma’s House Preschool Room, located in the lower level of the Center for Families building. The students raised over $1,900 which purchased a playtime kitchen set, four Tubs of Grub, Let’s Pretend pots and pans, plastic dinnerware, kitchen clock, baby dolls with cradle and changing table, and a rocking chair. The CSSMV Center for Families is located at 1046 Brown Street in Dayton. The Center will house programs which serve children and families including pregnancy counseling, foster care, adoption, infant adoption training project, child attachment therapy, individual and family counseling, Teen ParentLink, FatherLink, Teen LifeLink, and Erma’s House Family Visitation Center. The Center for Families Grand Opening is planned for August 8th.
